Our Story

Our Beginnings

On June 7, 1932 W. T. Emerson and Homer Burns created Emerson & Burns Funeral Home. The original funeral home was in a white framed house in downtown Jonesboro. In addition to the funeral business, an ambulance service was also started.

W. T. Emerson bought out the business in 1941 and the name was changed to Emerson & Son Funeral Home. The funeral home relocated next door from the original location to the old Arkansas Hotel building.

March 1, 1951 until present

On March 1, 1951 Emerson and Son Funeral Home relocated to the present location at 1629 E. Nettleton. In 1954 Billy Joe Emerson took over the leadership of the company and renamed it Emerson Funeral Home. Toby Emerson came to work in the family business in 1978. After several remodelings and building projects we are proud of our current facility. We still operate the oldest ambulance service in continuous service in the state of Arkansas. The ambulance service is located next door to the funeral home at 1703 E. Nettleton.
