Roger Griffin

Roger "Andy" Griffin, 88, of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, at NEA Baptist Hospital. Born on February 17, 1936, to the late Virgil and Pauline Griffin, Andy was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and a cherished member of the community.

Andy was a devoted member of Cathedral Baptist Church and formerly served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Harmony Baptist Church. Known for his love of the outdoors, Andy enjoyed cutting wood, baling hay, and helping his brother with cattle. He found joy in farm life, especially driving tractors. After 42 years of dedicated service, Andy retired from the Jonesboro Sun.

In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Griffin; three brothers, Jim Griffin, twin brother David "Sandy" Griffin, and Mike Griffin; and three sisters, Weltha Griffin, Martha Higgins, and Patsy Lucas; son in law, Rod Abernathy.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Doug (Tammy) Griffin of Jonesboro, Roger (Lori) Griffin of Jacksonville, FL, and Leisa Abernathy of Mountain Home; his sister, Mary (Herbert) Pierce of Jonesboro; grandchildren Justin (Whitney) Griffin, Amanda (Luke) Edwards, Haley Abernathy (Dustin), Seth (Morgan) Griffin, Rachel (Hailey) Griffin, and Hannah (Sam) Barre'; and great-grandchildren Owen Griffin, Chanler Griffin, Riley Edwards, Brantley Griffin, and Alayna Barre'.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Jason Lincoln. Burial will take place at Philadelphia Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Sam Barre', Matt Holt, Luke Edwards, Riley Edwards, Todd Emison, and James "Bubba" Gatlin. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Dixon, Jack Langston, Larry Addison, Brad Murphy, and Rusty Sartin.

The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
