Garfield Edgar, 92, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born on March 22, 1932, in Brown County, Texas, to the late Gordon Cleve Edgar and Ruth Merrell Edgar. At the age of five, he moved with his family to the Valley View-Gilkerson area, where he would spend much of his life.

A 1950 graduate of Valley View School, Garfield proudly served his country as a combat veteran of the Korean War. After his military service, he dedicated his life to farming and supporting his community.

Garfield is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Catherine Ginger Edgar, of the home; his children, Cathy Seidenstricker and husband Robert of Hazen, Clint Edgar and wife Nena of The Woodlands, Texas, and Ginger Wray and husband Robbie of Jonesboro. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ellen Locke and husband Andrew of Jasper, Georgia; Evan Edgar of Jonesboro; and Stuart Seidenstricker and wife Mallory of Hazen, Arkansas. His great-grandchildren, Lucy Seidenstricker and Henry Lee Seidenstricker of Hazen, were a source of great joy in his life. Additionally, Garfield is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his fourth grandchild, Sydney Halina Wray; his parents; six brothers, Alfred, Clint, Jerral, George, Quincy, and G.W. Edgar; and four sisters, Bernas Atherton, Verna Prickett, Alta Carroll, and June Jones.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 20, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. The service will be led by Grey Falanga and Cory Cartwright.

Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery, with active pallbearers Lomer Turney, Rick Coleman, Anthony Files, Stan Salmons, Will Alexander, and Lindy Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers include Doyle and Anita Yarbrough, Billy Jack Simpkins, Patsy Gerber (all members of the class of 1950), along with Janice Keller, Lucille Wimpy, Jack Daniel, Mike Noles, Rick Brown, Tucker Housley, Collin Elder, and Jimmy Ward.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pine Log Cemetery, 11656 HWY 49N, Brookland, AR 72417
