Zelma Dorton Pardew, 79, of Jonesboro, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at her home of natural causes.
A native and life-long resident of Jonesboro, Zelma was retired after working 30 years as secretary to the Superintendent of Nettleton Schools. Following her work at Nettleton, Zelma worked several years at the Bank of Northeast Arkansas.
Zelma was a member of Temple Baptist Church, was an avid reader, and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Charles Pardew; a daughter, Deanna Pardew; her parents, Albert and Bertha King Dorton; 2 brothers: Monroe Dorton and Lloyd Dorton; and by two sisters: Vera Moore and Orma Vincent.
Survivors include 2 daughters and son-in-law: Debbie and Rick Barnett, and Donna Pardew, all of Jonesboro;
2 sisters: Dorothy Rainbolt and Betty Watkins, both of Jonesboro;
3 brothers: Russell Dorton, Howard Dorton and Doyle Dorton, all of Jonesboro;
2 grandchildren: Blake Faulkenberry and his fiancé, Holly Coffey, and Brandy Thompson and her husband, Blake Thompson;
3 great grandchildren: Jackson Thompson, Eva Thompson and Leo Thompson; and
her dog and companion of 15 years, Abbey.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
A private family service and burial will be held at Jonesboro Memorial Park.
For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Heart Association, or NEA Humane Society.
