William G. Smith Jr., 85 of Jonesboro, died Saturday at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.
He was born in Denton, Arkansas and had lived in Jonesboro since 1950, moving here from Imboden, Arkansas. He was the owner and operator of Smith Sales Co. and also a retired salesman from Central Chevrolet in Jonesboro. He was a WWII Navy veteran and during that time he spent 3 years in U.S. Navy, with 30 months aboard ships in the South Pacific and a Boatswain’s Mate 2/C 750-55-57. He was a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents William G. and Nellie McLeod Smith Sr. 3 brothers; Alton, Milton and Manuel Smith. 4 sisters; Wilma Beavers, Mildred Williams, Madge O’Dell and Eula Jones.
Survived by his loving wife Margaret Hall Smith of the home.
2 sons; William Mark Smith (Debbie) of Jonesboro and Phillip Hall Smith (Liz) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
3 brothers; Leslie Smith of Pocahontas, Kennard Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana and Raymond Smith of Imboden, Arkansas. 1 sister; Phyllis Pegram of Springdale, Arkansas.
Four grandchildren; Anna, Abigail, Alexis and Aubrey Smith.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday October 5, 2010 at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Rev Harold Russell and Rev. Adrian Parker officiating. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery, with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Brewer, Dow Griffin, David Fowlkes, Kevin Rainbolt, Geoff Simmons and Bradley Littlejohn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Burke Gibson, Billy Gene McLeod, Larry McLeod, Leon Jones, Jess Wilson, Bo Pressgrove and the Men of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Grace Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
