William M. Peacock, 91, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro.
Born in Elba, Alabama, William joined the U.S. Air Force at age 17 and served twenty three years of active duty and was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. While stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, he met Joy Towery who lived at Fairfield Bay, Ark. They had their first date on October 31, 1955, and were married January 27, 1956.
Following his military retirement in 1971, William moved with his family to Jonesboro and began a twenty year career with the US Postal Service, serving as a city carrier from 1972-1992. In addition to these careers, William worked an additional ten years, employed with Enterprise Car Rentals in Jonesboro.
William was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and attended Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. He was an avid golfer and for a long period of time played daily at Sage Meadows Golf Club. He kept busy with yard work and doing errands for the family.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Selma B. and Minnie Mae Marler Peacock, and one brother, Rex Peacock.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joy Peacock of the home;
one daughter and her husband, Joyce and Eugene Neff of Brookland;
one brother and his wife, Gerald and Wanza Peacock of New Brockton, Alabama;
two grandchildren: Justin and wife Lisa Neff of Trumann, and Jenna Neff of Jonesboro; and
two great grandchildren, Cameron Neff and Mason Neff.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Log Pavilion in Pine Log Cemetery with Pastor Jim Stillwell officiating, and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.
