William Charles Johnson

August 16, 1923 — March 20, 2014

William “Billy” Charles Johnson, 90, of Jonesboro passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his residence of natural causes.

Billy was born of August 16, 1923 in Eupora, MS to the late W.P. and Addel Hubbard Johnson.  After high school he went on to serve our country in the Army during World War II.  During his career he worked for the U.S. Postal service and also in the grocery business for Kroger. He lived in Mississippi, Memphis, and North Little Rock, and after his retirement he moved to Jonesboro.  His hobbies included watching football and boxing, listening to country music, playing cards, and working in the garden.  He was always full of life and enjoyed being around people especially his family. His witty personality and love for his family will be missed but never forgotten.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Irene Johnson of Memphis;  three daughters, Charlotte Chambers of Jonesboro, Yvonne and her husband Charlie Barrett of Southaven, MS, and Connie and her husband Rick Pierotti of Eads, TN; six grandchildren, Rusty Chambers (Janice) of Jonesboro, Carla Carroll (Richard) of Nesbit, MS,  Beth Sterling (Michael) of Southaven, MS, Nicholas, Shane, and Colt Pierotti of Eads,TN; six great grandchildren; one cousin, Mattie McKay of Greenwood, MS.

A Memorial service will be at 10:00am Saturday in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Doug Purifoy officiating.   Burial will be private with Emerson Funeral in charge of all arrangements.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the John L. McClellen Memorial Veterans Hospital in North Little Rock for the continued care and professionalism.  In addition the family would like to thank St. Bernards Hospice in Jonesboro for their unconditional support and guidance.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be sent to the charity of choice.
