William J.. "Dub" Hodges

William J. "Dub" Hodges, 94, of Brookland, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born in Jonesboro, Dub lived all of his life in the Jonesboro-Brookland area. He was a brick mason all of his adult life and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Dub was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II, and a member of Jonesboro Masonic Lodge and Nettleton Masonic Lodge. Dub was past Worshipful Master at the Nettleton Lodge, was a 32 degree mason, a member of Scottish Rite and recipient of the 50-year membership designation.

Dub was preceded in death by his parents: Ora Dodd Hodges and Emma Elizabeth Simpson Hodges; by his wife of 67 years, Mary E. Hodges; by two brothers: Raymond Hodges and Elmer Hodges; and by a sister, Mary E. Griffin.

Survivors include 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Claudia and Charles Weathers of Brookland, Debra and Tom Sala of Dallas, Texas, and Amy and David Qualls of Jonesboro;

4 grandchildren: Jennifer (Mike) Stephenson and Jill (Mike) Smith, all of Brookland, Terri (Jeremy) Jordan of Norman, Oklahoma, and Emily Qualls of Nashville, Tennessee; and

5 great grandchildren: Justin (Hannah) Mullins of Jonesboro, and Sloan Stephenson, Sydney Stephenson, Eli Mullins and Sydney Smith, all of Brookland.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 Sunday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Masonic funeral rites will be conducted by members of the Lodge.

The family wishes to extend grateful appreciation to Dr. Rick Tate, Dr. Ben Owens and the staff of the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House for the excellent, professional and compassionate care given to Dub.
