William Edwards, Sr., 76, of Jonesboro, died Sunday morning at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Born in Chicago, William moved to West Helena in 1966 and then to Jonesboro 17 years ago. He was a retired Courier for Emery Worldwide and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. William also served in the Army National Guard following his Navy service.
William attended the Church of God of Prophesy in Jonesboro and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. While living in Chicago, he enjoyed ice skating, and later took up the hobby of wood working and furniture making.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Joseph and Anna Miller Edwards; by 3 sisters: Georgianna Edwards, Lillian Cannon, and Rosemary Wright; and by a brother, George Thomas Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Henson Edwards of the home;
1 son and daughter-in-law: William, Jr. and Linda Edwards, and 1 daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and Charles Smythe, all of Jonesboro;
1 brother, David Joseph Edwards of Schaumburg, Illinois;
8 grandchildren: Tracy Hale, Donnie Churchwell, Jr., Matthew Oaks, Chris Churchwell, David Oaks, Ashley Shields, Kendra Clairday, and Candice Smythe; and
13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Gerald Vickers and J.E. Elliott officiating. Burial will be private.
Honorary pallbearers include: Sherman Wright, Charles Smythe, Sammy Grigsby, Jr., Jimmy Henson, Bobby Clairday, Winford Henson, Bryce Long, Jr., Hubert Gray, Ronnie Vaughn, Keith Long and Danny Gartman.
Visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
