William D. "Bill" Workman, 69, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House
Born September 24, 1945, in Lauratown near Clover Bend in Lawrence County, Bill was a 1964 graduate of Clover Bend High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Francie Grisham on August 5, 1972, and was a faithful Christian and member of Greensboro Road Church of Christ.
Bill worked several years for City Water and Light of Jonesboro and was a talented musician, singer, songwriter and auctioneer. He was preceded in death by an infant sister JoAnn Workman, and by his parents: Willard Clayton Workman and Lois Harris Workman.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Francie Grisham Workman of the home;
1 son, Clayton (Emily Kee) Workman and their sons, Austin Workman and Jonah Workman all of Belews Creek, North Carolina;
1 daughter, Amy (Matt) Cooper and their son Gage Pipkin, all of Bono;
3 sisters: Ada (Wendell) Davis of Tennessee, Sue Simpson of Paragould, and Pam Workman of Walnut Ridge;
3 brothers: Willard Workman, Jr. of Walnut Ridge, Hubert Workman of Portia, and Gary Workman of Hoxie;
an uncle, William Noel Workman of Mississippi; and
many nephews, nieces, great nephews/nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m.- 1:45 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Terry Joe Kee minister of Greensboro Road Church of Christ in Jonesboro, and Mark Brewer minister of Bay Church of Christ officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Liberty Church of Christ Cemetery north on Hwy. 351 North in Greene County.
Active pallbearers include Bill Berry, Bobby Colburn, Don House, Marshall Lands, Dan Nichols and Jeff Presley. Honorary pallbearers include Leo Barnett, Scottie Blanchard, Curtis Duffel, Mike Felts, Mike Gray, Dr. F. Joseph George, Kenneth Harp, Dr. Louis Layton, Dr. Marc Monte, Randy Oden, Dave Pearson, Jody Pickens, John Robertson, Jim Selvidge and Kelly Rowe.
Lasting memorials may be made to Greensboro Road Church of Christ Mission Fund, Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, Clopton Clinic Chemotherapy Unit, American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Memphis, or the American Cancer Society.
