William (Bill) Papich, age 82 of Jonesboro, died at his residence Wednesday. Born December 24, 1929 in Lovilia, Iowa; William lived in Watertown, South Dakota before moving to Jonesboro. Bill graduated from American Institute of Technology in Des Moines, Iowa and served his country by serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He worked and retired from the Southwestern Power Administration Department of Energy.
William loved to garden, hunt and fish. He played poker with the boys on Wednesdays. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in playing all sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Katherine Jackovich Papich. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sally Southwick Papich of the home; son, William J. Papich (Debbie) of Decatur, Alabama; daughters, Julie Wooten, of Rogers; Pam Papich of Jonesboro; Kathy Cherryholmes (Lonnie) of Collierville, Tn.; Brother, Stan Papich of Bloomington, New York; and sister Dorothy Crum of Iowa City, Iowa. Five grandchildren, Margaret Wooten, Hillary Papich, Mallory Papich, Matthew Papich, Peyton Cherryholmes.
Service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Jack Vu officiating. Pallbearers include Bruce Moore, Jim Turney, John Hafner, Frank Hafner, Brad Faught, Perry Winn. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Rosary will be 6:30 PM Friday, August 17, 2012 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with visitation to follow from 7 – 9 PM.
