William “Bill” Edward Gossett, 66, of Jonesboro passed from this life June 9, 2016 at his home. Bill was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and was the oldest son of Dr. C. E. and Gloria Gossett. Having grown up the son of a Navy officer, Bill was educated in several states and even abroad. He could tell you all kinds of great stories recounting the various places they lived and visited.
He was very proud to be from a military family and served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973. After serving his country, Bill joined the office staff with his father and worked with Dr. Gossett and Dr. Eddington until their retirement, at which time Bill started a new career in real estate appraising which he enjoyed until he retired.
A man of many talents and master of most, he enjoyed working on our family genealogy, solving difficult math equations, woodworking - including building an actual sailboat, gardening - his pride was a 21 foot okra plant (even though he hated eating okra) but his current favorite activity and his true claim to fame was his excellent “Papawing” abilities!
To say he was a fan of softball would be an understatement. He was a staple at Southside Softball Complex and the go-to for scouting reports and all team stats. He cheered for all the girls but especially loud for ArXtreme, his niece Daisy Grace, beloved granddaughter Abigail and favorite grandson Evan.
While not much of a football fan after the Hogs left the SWC in ’91 he did find joy in it again until his grandson Evan began to play. He never missed a game and heckled the refs appropriately.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his (and I quote) “one and only perfect child”
Danielle and husband Paul Pittman, favorite former wife Elizabeth Delameter and his spectacular grandchildren Abigail Pittman and Evan Pittman. His brothers: Larry and wife Sue Gossett of Little Rock, Ar. Roy and wife Bonita Gossett of Heber Springs, Ar. and his sister Beth and husband Mike Brown of Jonesboro Ar. His treasured nieces: Heather, Cyndi, Amber, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Daisy Grace. His cherished nephews: Jim, Bob, Marc, Bradley and Ryan. He also leaves several great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved and cherished.
Services are private with interment at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye.
