William “Bill” Edgar Dowdy, 81, of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born September 8, 1938 in Jonesboro to the late Harold and Opal Dowdy. Bill was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church. He worked for ASU for several years as a custodian. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars and drinking coffee. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Angel Dowdy, Misty Dowdy; 1 sister, Rosetta Dowdy; 3 brothers, Earnest Dowdy, Reginald Dowdy, James Allen Dowdy and 1 great granddaughter, Alea Cowan.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lois Marie Dowdy; 6 sons: William L. (Kemberly) Dowdy, Wade (Melody) Dowdy, Bryan (Karrie) Dowdy, Jonathan (Latisha) Dowdy, Emmanuel (Maegan) Dowdy, Benny (Leslie) Lisk; 4 daughters, Brenda (Nick) Lewis, Becky Dowdy, Tena (Timothy) Moon, Rhonda (Paul) Cowan; 3 brothers, Harold Dowdy Jr., Sherman Dowdy, David Dowdy; 1 sister, Lucille Pennely; 31 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Thursday, July 30, 2020 in Emerson Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brad Robinson and Rev. Jeff Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
The latest Arkansas Health Department Directives for large gatherings in the state allows Emerson Funeral Home Chapel to accommodate a maximum of 150 persons simultaneously. Face coverings must be worn to enter the building and social distancing will be in effect.
