William Roger Banter

September 15, 1939 — October 11, 2012

Roger Banter, 73, passed away October 11, 2012 at his home.He was born in Bradford September 15, 1939 to John & Mary E. Banter. He was of the Baptist faith and attended South Caraway Baptist Church.Roger collected coins and knives and worked on his buddies’ watches. He enjoyed “horse trading” and going to yard sales with his McDonald buddies. Roger was an avid supporter of ASU sports and the Red Wolves. He was very friendly and never met a stranger. He was a supervisor for Anheuser Bush in Jonesboro for 20 years.

He was married to his wife, Naomi (Nonie) Banter for 45 years. He spent his childhood years in Herman, Nettleton, and Jonesboro. After spending twenty years in California, he returned to Jonesboro in 1980.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John & Mary Banter; grandson, Zac Banter; brother, Bert Banter; brothers-in-law, Bill Seats and B.J. Shempert.

He leaves behind his wife, Nonie Banter; son, Bill and his wife Sherry Banter, daughter, Shannon and her husband Dereck Turner; two grandchildren, Brooke and Garrett Turner; sisters, Janna Seats, Virginia Shempert, all of Jonesboro; sister-in-law, Auline (Caldwell) Banter; five nephews and nieces; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Herman Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Brodell and Roger’s coffee drinking buddies.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that lasting memorials be made to South Caraway Baptist Church, 3707 S. Caraway Road, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72404 or Herman Cemetery Association, 436 Craighead 127, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401.
