Wilfred Fisher

December 22, 1932 — May 14, 2011

Maj. Wilfred S. Fisher (USMC RET.) age 78, of Jonesboro, died Saturday morning at his home of natural causes. He was born in San Diego and has lived much of the past 35 years in Jonesboro.

Maj. Fisher was a 1955 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and served in the U.S. Marine Corps until his retirement in 1975. He was a Marine Pilot in the Vietnam War where he piloted A-4s and C-130s.

Following retirement, Maj. Fisher earned a Master degree from the University of Arkansas and a second Master degree and a Doctorate degree from the University of Memphis. He taught in the Colleges of Business at Arkansas State University, the University of Houston-Victoria, and at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Maj. Fisher was a member of Valley View Church of Christ where he taught Sunday school, and was a life member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Northeast Arkansas Chapter of MOAA.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Fisher, of the home; one sister and brother-in-law: Doris and Billy Rodgers of Munford, Tennessee; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2011, at 2:00, at Valley View Church of Christ with David Gibson, Michael Meredith and Jay Allen officiating. Entombment will follow in the U.S. Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, Maryland.

There will be no visitation.
