W.E. "Bill" Clayton

August 23, 1935 — February 18, 2013

W.E. “Bill” Clayton, 77, of Williford, died Monday evening at his home of natural causes.

Born in Manila, bill lived many years in the Trumann area before moving to Williford in 1991. He was a retired Ironworker and life member of Local Union 167 in Memphis. He was a commercial fisherman and trapper and enjoyed hunting. Following his retirement from ironworking, Bill worked as a sawmiller in Williford.

Bill was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Rosie Wycoff Clayton, by his brother, Gene Clayton, by his sisters, Bessie Lee Head and Marie Clayton, and by a son-in-law, Walter Meurer.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Wilsie Clayton of the home, married July 28, 1962;

4 daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda Kenley (James) of Lake City, Glenda Foreman (Larry) of Jonesboro, Linda Trotter (Steve) of Bay, and Christine Meurer of Deer;

11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Phil Pinto officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include Rick Foreman, Joey Abbott, Jeremy Abbott, Derrick Green, Greg Green and Jimmy Green. Honorary pallbearers include the Mullins Family and fellow Ironworkers of Local 167.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
