Wava Gene Medlock, a cherished member of our community, passed away on August 24, 2023, at the Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro. She was born to the late Darvey and Ollie Mayfield Sr., and her life's journey took her from Lake City to Jonesboro, where she spent the majority of her years. Wava held strong Christian beliefs that guided her throughout her life.
Wava had a heart filled with love, and this was especially evident in her care for her dogs, who held a special place in her heart. An avid reader, she found solace and joy within the pages of books. But above all, her devotion to family was unparalleled. She cherished moments spent with her loved ones, always valuing the time she had with them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Darvey and Ollie Mayfield Sr., as well as her beloved grandson, Billy Wyatt. Wava leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will be carried on by those who knew her.
Wava's memory will forever be cherished by her husband of 30 years, Nathan Medlock, who remained a constant source of love and support. She is also survived by her son, Delbert (Angel) Medlock of Jonesboro, and her two daughters, Lesley Mayfield (Tyler) Dunlap of Jonesboro and Molly (Brock) Johnson of Imboden.
In addition, Wava's presence will be deeply missed by her brothers, Tommy Mayfield and J.R. Mayfield (Sandy Metz), both of Lake City, and her sister, Erma (Robert) Baker of Jonesboro. Her grandchildren, Alexis Mayfield Dunlap, Tyler Carter, Wendiegh Wyatt, Ashlyn Wyatt, and Levi Johnson, will hold onto the memories they created with their beloved grandmother.
A visitation to celebrate Wava's life will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Emerson Funeral Home. The burial will be a private ceremony for the immediate family.
To honor Wava's memory and offer condolences, an online registry has been set up at www.emersonfuneralhome.com.
