Walter Curtis Staggs, 83, of Jonesboro, Arkansas passed away on December 21, 2022 at NEA Baptist Hospital.
Walter was born May 26, 1939 to Tom and Beulah Staggs. Walter was raised in Trumann, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Trumann High School where he excelled in many sports, being named All State in football, All District in basketball and The Best Athlete. Upon graduation, Walter served in the Army National Guard and began his life long career in the cotton warehouse industry. He worked for Federal Compress & Warehouse Company for 32 years, which led the family to the community of Blytheville, Arkansas. He also worked for Central States Warehouse in Blytheville. In 1995, Walter and Phyllis relocated to Georgia where Walter worked for King Cotton Warehouse in Albany, and Cotton Bowl Warehouse in Pelham, before returning to Blytheville. After retirement he resided in Jonesboro. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, a faithful deacon and a servant of the Lord. Walter’s love language was one of service to anyone who knew him. He was a member of Trumann Lion’s Club and Blytheville Kiwanis Club. He loved fishing, hunting and any outdoor activities. He was also a master woodworker who gifted his work to many family and friends. He was a man of few words, but loved his family and friends deeply.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis Watkins Staggs, of the home; one son, Rodney Staggs and his wife Katie of Little Rock; one daughter Alicia Rose and her husband Stephen of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Olivia and Jon Thomas Staggs of Little Rock; Will Rose of Blytheville; Caroline and Matthew Rose of Jonesboro; and a host of other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
