Walter R. Bergener

Walter R. Bergener Jr., 84, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born at his home in Centertownship, Pennsylvania on June 23, 1932 to the late Walter R. and Helen Smith Bergener Sr. Walter had lived in Jonesboro since 1996, moving here from California. He was a pump operator in California and of the Lutheran belief. He was a U.S. Navy Korean veteran from 1951-1955, Past Master Mason in California, Past Master Mason in Arkansas for a total of 53 years and a Shriner. He enjoyed working in the yard, and was an avid Pittsburg Steelers and Pirates fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joanna Bergener.

Survived by his sons; Richard Bergener (Melissa) of Jonesboro and Walter Bergener III (Suni) of San Diego, California.

Sister, Cathy MacMinn (Jim) of Minnesota.

Several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside will be held at a later date and time with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
