Just as the renewal of spring and the promise of the resurrection Vivian O. Alston, 97, left her earthly body and passed to her eternal life on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, with her daughter Karen, special caregiver and new friend, Sierra Hudgens, and her two loving poodles, Mona Lisa and Kallie Marie by her side. Vivian was born on October 15, 1927, in Manila, Arkansas to the late Bryan and Lois Osborne. Vivian graduated from Baptist school of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee with her RN degree. She married her husband of 71 years Herman D(HD) Alston. HD and Vivian raised three children, two sons, Steve and Phillip, and one daughter, Karen. Vivian loved her family and loved to cook. She was a fabulous seamstress making most of her clothes. When her husband, who became a dermatologist, came to her and said he needed some help in the office, Vivian assumed the role of both office manager and nurse. Vivian worked tirelessly. At the age of 80, Vivian found a lot for sale and had a new house built to her specifications. She worked hours in her yard and did most of her landscaping.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Lois Osborne; brother, Dr. Merrill Osborne; sister, Virginia Wright; husband, Herman (HD) Alston; son, Steve Alston; and granddaughter, Melissa Ann Alston.
Vivian is survived by a son, Dr. Phillip R. Alston of North Little Rock; a daughter, Karen Alston of Beebe, Arkansas; Her grandchildren; Michael, Blake, Sean(Yen), Jana; and great grandchildren, Rex Hai, Geronimo Khoi, and Knox Vinh(Vinny) and the true loves of her life and constant companions, her toy poodles, Mona Lisa and Kallie Marie.
In her later days Vivian talked frequently of her family that passed before her. She talked with expectation and joy that was visible on her face and in her eyes.
Over the past few years Vivian talked frequently of going back home to Jonesboro, as she was residing at Stonebridge Senior Living in Heber Springs. (Now) we can rest assured she was welcomed “home” with open arms by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her loving family.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Emerson Funeral Home with John Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
