Jonesboro—Mr. Virnis O. Stevens, 81, of Jonesboro died Saturday February 24, 2006 at Rose Skilcare in Jonesboro. He was born in Stone Co, Arkansas, had lived in the Jonesboro area most of his life and was of the Church Of God belief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Augustine (Sutterfield) Stevens; one brother, Hershel Stevens; one daughter, Patricia Stevens; and one great-grandchild, Miaaka Sadie Hawkins.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Stevens; three sons, Jerry Stevens of Altus, Oklahoma, Dewayne Stevens of Bay, and Jackie Stevens of Jonesboro; three daughters, Ollie Ann Torbert of Aurora, Colorado, Betty Sue Davis of Jonesboro, and Esther Cobb of Brookland; four brothers, Herman Stevens of Flint, Michigan, Leroy Stevens of Benton, Arkansas, Hubert Stevens and C. L. Stevens, both of Paragould; one sister, Sue Hester of Mounds, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday February 28, 2007 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Nevin Gnagey officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.
The family asks that those wishing to leave memorials to consider the Alzheimer’s Association.
