Virginia Iris Pipes Davis, 69, of Memphis, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015, at her home in Memphis.
Born in Trumann, Virginia lived most of her life in the Jonesboro area before moving to Memphis 3 years ago. She was a retired shipping clerk for Smurfit-Stone Manufacturing of Jonesboro and was of the Baptist faith. Virginia enjoyed computer games, work puzzle books, and romance novels. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens, collected wind chimes and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Davis; a son, Jackie Ray Davis; her parents: Charlie and Iris Mae Friend Pipes; a sister, Janet Pipes and a brother, Gary Paul Pipes.
Survivors include:
2 sons and daughters-in-law: Eddie and Suzie Davis of Memphis, and Jimmy and Susan Davis of Jonesboro;
8 brothers: James Albert Pipes (Bonnie) and Tom Pipes (Rhonda) all of Russellville;
Charles Pipes (Carol), Vernie Pipes (Carol) and Darrell Pipes (Cindy) all of Jonesboro;
Ernie Pipes of Paragould; Ken Pipes (Lynn) of Flint, Michigan; and Dee Pipes (Leslie) of parts unknown.
12 grandchildren: Michael Davis (Minnie), Nicholas Davis, Bradley Davis, Zoee Davis, Larry Tippitt (Monica), Rachel Simmons (Cody), Alexis Parks, Savannah Hicks and Amber Prine, all of Jonesboro; Charles Webster of Memphis; Jeffrey Davis of Texas; and Nicholas Richards (Tracy) of Florida;
16 great grandchildren; and
Numerous nephews and nieces who were raised like her children.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jason Pipes officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Crossroads Hospice of Memphis and especially nurse Kathy Freeman who nicknamed Virginia "The Warrior."
