Virginia Fare Mclaurin

Virginia Fare McLaurin, 79 of Jonesboro, died Thursday Morning, August 6, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Village. She was a native of Corinth, Mississippi, living in Memphis and Monroe, Louisiana, before moving to Jonesboro in 1968.

She received her undergraduate degree from Memphis State University and completed her post-graduate work at Arkansas State University. She was known by many to be a master of teaching by students and fellow teachers. She taught in the elementary schools in Memphis and Monroe before becoming a fourth grade teacher at West Elementary School where she taught until her retirement. Mrs. McLaurin wasthe proud owner of a1969 Oldsmobile Hurstolds that won many car shows including the University Heights Lions Club Auto Show.

Mrs. McLaurin is survived by a niece, Pam Chipley of Memphis, and Godmother to Bella and Georgia Spinks. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne McLaurin, her parents William George and Alex Rainey Fare, two brothers, and a sister.

She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church where she often taught a class, and also a lifetime member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teacher sorority. She was a board member, emeritus, of Friends of the Library, and the Arkansas Volunteer Association.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M., Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Reverend John Miles, Reverend Patty Soward and Doug Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers are Curt Hodges, Doug Walls, Ron Williams, Joey Spinks, J. D. McGregor, and Mark Staib. Honorary pallbearers include Percy Stephens, Aubrey Scott, Warren Dupwe, Carl Schuchardt, members of the Friendship Sunday School Class and board members of Friends of the Library. Visitation will be from 1:00 Sunday until service time at Emersons.
