Virginia McFarland Covington, 82, of Jonesboro went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2023. She had lived in Jonesboro since 1967, moving here from Decatur Georgia. She was born in Frankfort, Kentucky on October 5, 1940, to Monte and Ruth McFarland. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was the Church secretary and was active in the Disciple Women’s Fellowship. She held several offices in this church organization over the years. She and her husband were active in the farming community. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and organized many survivor functions. She worked many hours for American Cancer Society Daffodil Days, an organization providing hope and reassurance for cancer victims. She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert McFarland and Don McFarland.
Survivor include her husband of 59 years, Tom Covington, of the home; son, Tim Covington and his wife Christi of Jonesboro; daughter, Michele Lawson and her husband Alan of Jonesboro; brothers, Dr. Jim McFarland of Providence, Rhode Island; Ron McFarland of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Kyle Covington, Clay Covington, Morgan Lawson and Madison Lawson and a host nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Don Martin Officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with grandchildren, nieces and nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time at the Chapel.
