Violet Whitehead

April 16, 1941 — July 9, 2024

Gwendolyn Violet Whitehead, 83, of Black Oak passed from this life on Tuesday July 9, 2024 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born April 16, 1941 in Caraway to the late W.D. and Mildred Coffman.

Violet has lived in Black Oak all of her life and was a member of the First Assembly of God. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed growing flowers and even had her own flower shop at one point.

In addition to her parents, Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Edward Whitehead; daughter, Valerie Whitehead; sons, Willie Paul Whitehead and Artie Whitehead as well as a sister, Wanda Stogsdill.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Whitehead; grandchildren, David Whitehead, Casey Whitehead, Megan Steed and Kimberly Stewart as well as two great-grandchildren, Wesley Stewart and Maddy Stewart.

A visitation will be held Saturday July 13, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

The graveside service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. at Caraway Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include David Whitehead, Casey Whitehead, Brian Brooks, Mark Stogsdill, Rodney Sanders and Eddie Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Davis and Larry Davis as well as the Caraway Class of 1960.
