Vernon Alva McKay, 48, of Weiner, passed from this life on December 29, 2016. He was born on January 15, 1968, to the late Glen McKay and Ann Maynard. He lived most of his life in Brookland before moving to Weiner.
Vernon was a member of Weiner Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and a youth leader. Previously, he was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. Vernon lived to show God's love, mercy, and kindness to others. He never met a stranger, always had a story or joke to tell, loved to cook, and had a great laugh. All who knew him loved him. He taught us how to love and serve in a Christ-like manner. He loved his family with all his heart and joyfully called himself, "The Golden Child". His motto was "It is what it is...and that's all it is."

Survivors include his loving wife, Kathryn Norris Ozbun McKay of the home, children, Alysha (Sebastian) Tarkington of Jonesboro, Tucker McKay, Jenna McKay, both of Brookland, Taylor (Kodi) Ozbun of Bono, Brant and Abram Ozbun of the home, and two grandchildren, Natalie Tarkington and Jax Ozbun. He also leaves behind 3 siblings who loved him very much. Glen (Rhonda) McKay of Batesville, Regina McKay and Shelby (Ben) Knight, both of Jonesboro. And his sister by friendship Rhonda (Brad) Hathcoat Baugh of Bono. Vernon was "Uncle" to many nieces and nephews having a special bond with Shauna McKay, Sara (Jim) Konermann, Hailey Knight, Lindsay (Tyler) McCarty, Jeremiah Knight, Loriann Martinez, Bobby Martinez, Kaileigh Sutton and Cooper Sutton. He also loved his many great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 3 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro. Glen McKay officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be Monday, January 2, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Emerson Memorial Chapel.

Active pall bearers include, Tucker McKay, Sebastian Tarkington, Ben Knight, Kevin McKay, David Needham, Ernest Mayfield, Jody Gray and Phil Snow.

Honorary pall bearers include Jeremiah Knight, Taylor Ozbun, Brant Ozbun, and Abram Ozbun, and the Colson Caster family.
Because of his work and dedication to youth over countless years, the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Weiner Christian Church WOW Jr. Youth.
