Vernon M. Lary

April 5, 1914 — November 7, 2012

Vernon M. Lary, 98, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at Craighead County Nursing Center.

Born in the Lester community near Lake City, Vernon lived many years in Downey, California where he worked several years for Southern Pacific Railroad as a railroad detective. Following retirement, Vernon moved to Jonesboro.

Vernon was a member of First Assembly of God on Stone Street and was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II. He was a member of Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #129 and was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Lary, who died in 2011.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Joyce Lynch (James) of Jonesboro and Linda Ezell (Don) of Wilmington, California;

2 nieces, Geneva Guthrie and Gena Lea Kammien, both of St. Louis;

6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at Pine Hill Cemetery with Rev. Matt Smith officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
