Vernon L. "Lonnie" Walker, Jr., 71, of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Lonnie was born in Jonesboro and lived much of his life here. He served 16 years active duty in the U.S. Army and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Following military service, Lonnie worked in manufacturing before retiring.
Lonnie enjoyed watching movies, especially westerns and was a Dallas Cowboys football fan. He was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Walker, III; his father, Vernon Walker, Sr., 2 brothers: David Walker and Jimmy Walker; and a nephew, Noah Walker.
Survivors include:
2 daughters and their husbands: Leighia and Scott Park of New Braunfels, Texas, and Shannon and Noel Forrest of Ponchatoula, Louisiana;
2 sons and a daughter-in-law: Duston Walker of Black Rock and Tony and Rebecca Moody of Prosper, Texas;
his mother, Lurane Walker Daugherty of Jonesboro;
1 brother and his wife, Dan and Peggy Walker of Jonesboro;
a sister-in-law, Sharon Walker of Jonesboro;
10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers include Gage Marchant, Justin Haltom, Jimmy Andrews, Justin Dixon, Ben Stone and Buddy Williams.
