Vernie Wilson

September 26, 1926 — June 11, 2012

Vernie Wilson, 85, of Lake City died peacefully at her home on Monday. Born in Tuckerman, she spent most of her life in Lake City. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Wilson and their firstborn infant son, John.

Through years of hard work and with simple abundance Vernie raised six sons and five daughters. She served the Lord in the church as a nursery attendant rocking many of Lake City’s babies for more than forty years. She enjoyed playing bingo with friends at the Lake City Senior Life Center when she wasn’t traveling to visit with one of her children.

Vernie is survived by her children, Donna Jett of Alabama; Roger Wilson (Karen); David Wilson (Pat) of Illinois; Judy Poe (James); Woodrow Wilson; Vicky Wilson; Kenneth Wilson (Melissa); Edwin Wilson, all from Arkansas; Lynne Rodela (PC); Ricky Wilson (Lori); from Texas and Kathy Gurley from North Carolina. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Alvin Shaver of Illinois and Joe Shaver of Alabama; Virgie Owens of Oklahoma; Ruth Bendily of Mississippi; and Dovie Stubblefield of Alabama. 32 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 5 – 7 at Emerson Funeral Home Chapel . Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Lake City with Pastor Larry Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Macey Cemetery in Monette. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mama, we thank you for the joy you brought to our lives. And we take comfort in knowing you are with the Lord watching over us until we are united again.
