Vernie Stevens Harris, 89, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born in Cross County, Arkansas on September 24, 1927 to the late Steve and Floie Lee Thomas Harris. Vernie had lived in Jonesboro for over 30 years, was a member of the Friendship Assembly of God Church and a retired Assembly of God minister. He also was a retired SGM U.S. Army and a disabled Vietnam Veteran.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Duane Harris.
Survived by his wife, Vivian Harris of the home.

Sons, Lionel Harris (Carol) of Paragould, Arkansas and Garry Harris (Wanda) of Fremont Hills, Missouri.

Daughter, Renita Gorton (Todd) of Jonesboro.

8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday January 31, 2017 at the Friendship Assembly of God Church with Bro. James Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with full Military Honors. Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday January 30, 2017 at Emerson Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Alexander Gorton, Tim Norman, Clint Cooper, Bob Mariott and Ed Tannehill.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Friendship Assembly of God Church, 1771 Hwy 163, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72404
