Verlon M. Smith, 93, of Jonesboro passed from this life Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. Bernards Medical Center.
He was born August 22, 1928 in Manila to the late Arthur and Letha Smith. Verlon has lived in Jonesboro for a little over a year after moving from Cherokee Village. He was a dedicated, born again Christian, active in church choirs and a member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Verlon served our great country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and maintained a passion for golf throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Verlon is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Smith and brothers, Bobby Smith and Joe Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Paul (Mary Jo) Smith of Houston, TX and Dale (Beverly) Smith of Jonesboro; daughter, Jill (Ray) Murphy of Dallas, TX; sisters, Ada (Buddy) Moore of Hornersville, MO and Charla (Kenny) Foresythe of Mountain Grove, MO; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Tim Smith, Patrick Smith, Katelyn Smith, Brittany Smith, Timothy Shmaefsky, Katie and Keaton White, Caleb and Megan Smith, Blaire Smith, Jocelyn Murphy, Sean Murphy and Vince Murphy as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Horners Cemetery in Hornersville, MO.
