Verlene Horton Kroe

Verlene was born to Omage and Elsie Horton of the Canaan community on May 12, 1915.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Edard James Kroe; a son Dr. Donald James Kroe (a Duke University pathologist who practiced in Jonesboro, Arkansas and was born in Canaan, Arkansas).

Verlene is survived by a son, Dr. Michael J. Kroe (a Duke University oral surgeon practicing in Westminister, Maryland); a daughter, Patricia Elaine Kroe ( a University of Maryland alumnus and U.S. Dept of Education employee who resides in Arlington, Virginia); and a son Jerry Edard Kroe (a University of North Carolina alumnus who resides in Brookland, Arkansas).

She was of the Baptist Faith. Services were conducted at the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Leonard Knight presiding. Burial was in the Canaan Cemetery on January. 20, 2009 with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.
