Vera Aliene Brown, 94, of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully at her home on August 15, 2026. Born in Dryden, AR, on February 18, 1932, to the late Cryus and Stella Dye, Vera is preceded in death by her husband, James Patrick Brown; sister, Christine Webster; and brothers, John, Vernon, and Cecil Dye.
Vera lived her entire life in Northeast Arkansas. She was an avid gardener, loving to work in her yard tending flowers and vegetables, but her love didn’t stop in the garden. Vera regularly pickled cucumbers and canned other vegetables. She could turn different flowers into beautiful arrangements for any occasion. She also took pride in her appearance. From church potlucks to the post office, Vera was always dressed to impress. Some of Vera’s most peaceful moments were spent fishing on her pond and watching QVC. Most importantly, Vera loved her family. Her treasured memories live on through her kids and grandkids.
Vera is survived by her sons, Jerry Brown (Angie) of Walnut Ridge and Cary Brown (Ann) of Jonesboro; her daughter, Patsy Oswald (Dan), of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Catherine, Stacey, Cynthia, Aaron, Shawn Patrick, Stephanie, Shawn William, Shana, and Jamie; 31 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on August 20, 2026, at Emerson Funeral Home, with Justin Smith officiating. A visitation will precede the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Matt Kelley, Clint Brown, Clay Kersey, Shawn Oswald, Perry Jackson, William Rasberry, Hayden Smith, and Justin Smith.
Among the honorary pallbearers are the caretakers at Elite Hospice.
