Vera Pratt Boyles

Vera Pratt Boyles, 88, of Jonesboro died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Vera was born December 30, 1924 in Bono to the late Pink Bennett Pratt Sr. and Lena Lakey Pratt. After high school she earned her degree in Education from Arkansas State College. She taught school for over 30 years in the Memphis, and for the Houston independent school systems. After her retirement in education she continued to help people through caregiving to the elderly. She loved gardening, studying her Bible, and being with her family. After losing her husband, Buford Franklin Boyles Jr., the love of her life in 1979 she focused her life on God and her family.


In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, infant Isiah, Hillis Sr., Hardy, and Pink Bennett Pratt Jr., four sisters, infant Velva Pratt, Venora (Crump) Reeves, Veleta Barnes, and Vida Mae Pool.

She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Suzanne Middleton of North Little Rock and Cynthia Boyles Long, one son, Barron McMillian, one grandson, Wesley Daniel Moore and his wife Michelle, one great grandson, Noah Daniel Moore all of Jonesboro, one sister, Velcine Pratt Howard of Piedmont, OK, and a hosts of other family and friends.

Graveside service will be 2pm Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. John Miles officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Visitation will be 12-1:30pm Wednesday at Emerson Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Howard, Randall Pratt, and Hillis Pratt Jr.
