Velva Mae Powers, age 100, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at St. Elizabeth’s Place in Jonesboro.
Born in Forrest City, Velva moved at an early age to Paragould and then to Jonesboro where she graduated high School and lived most of her life. She worked 28 years for the Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro.
For many years Velva was active in the Democratic Party of Arkansas and was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Powers, by a brother, Jim Keysacker and by a son-in-law, Dr. James Webb.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Barbara Webb and Ann Fritz, both of Jonesboro;
4 grandchildren: Dr. Jim and Debbie Webb of Springfield, Missouri, Candace and Roger Franks of Little Rock, Boetta and Russ Saunders of Houston, Texas, and William R. Fritz and his wife Dr. Connier Hiers of Jonesboro;
4 great grandchildren: Jake Webb of Springfield, Zachary Webb and his wife Clairese of Little Rock, Ava Franks of Little Rock and Dr. Katy Burdick and her husband Dr. Chris Burdick of Shreveport, Louisiana; and
2 great, great grandchildren, Abbey Burdick and Connor Burdick of Shreveport.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in Pine Log Cemetery with Rev. Worth Gibson officiating with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.
