Velores Barber

Agnes Velores Barber, age 87, of Jonesboro, joined her Heavenly family on Saturday, September 22, 2007.

Born at Salado in Independence County, Mrs. Barber lived much of her life in Craighead County. She and her husband operated a grocery store and café in Lunsford in the 1950s. She worked several years as a sales associate for JC Penney in Jonesboro before her retirement.

She was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church where she was a member of Fidelis II Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband: Cliff Barber; by a son: Jim Barber; and by a daughter: Jan McKinney.

Survivors include: 1 Daughter and Son-in-law: Donna and Norris Watkins of Jonesboro;

1 Daughter-in-law: Carolyn Barber of Lake City;

1 Son-in-law: Doyle McKinney of Walnut Ridge;

8 Grandchildren: David McKinney, Traci Smith, and Robyn Beavers, all of Jonesboro; Blake Barber of Lake City, Scott Watkins of Salem, Bart Barber, Ashley Warrick and Karen Underwood, all of Texas;

17 Great Grandchildren; and

Many friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, September 26, 2007, at 11:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Bart Barber and David McKinney officiating.

A committal service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at Egner Cemetery near Salado with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00-11:00 at Emerson Funeral Home Chapel.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
