Velma L. Poole

Velma L. Poole, 89, died on Friday, May 9, 2025, at her home.  She had lived in Jonesboro since 1961.  She was born in Newport on September 20, 1935, to Joseph and Lena Tarno.  She attended the First NEA Church in Jonesboro.  She was a cosmetologist by trade and worked at General Electric until they closed.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Poole Jr., brothers, R. T. “Buddy” Tarno and Ovie Tarno; and one sister, Beatrice Cook.

Survivors include her son, Terry Poole (Crystal); daughter, Marva Murphy all of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Robby Dollar (Verna); Tiffany Sterling (Michael); Melissa Counts (Mark); Beth Poole; Amanda Pratt, Joseph Poole (Danielle); and 12 great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Velma will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Trey Rose officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. All other services are private.
