Veda Elizabeth Watson Pounders, age 80, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at NEA Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.
Born in Piggott, Veda lived in Walnut Ridge while she attended Southern Baptist College before moving to Jonesboro in 1959. She retired from Nettleton Public Schools, where she was a Special Education Teacher's Aide and was a devout Christian. Veda was a graduate of Arkansas State University. Her life revolved around her family, and one of her favorite things was traveling with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading her Bible, attending church, cooking and working crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Iler McReynolds Lyles; her first husband, J.T. Watson; 3 brothers: J.R., Martin and Jimmy Lyles; and 2 sisters: Ruth Reynolds and Earlene Thrasher.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, James "Jim" Pounders of the home;
One daughter Debbie Byrd (Ron) of Jonesboro;
Two sons Michael Watson (Karen) of Jonesboro and Anthony Watson of Jonesboro;
One step-daughter Virginia Prince (Brad) of West Memphis;
One step-son James Pounders, III, of Florida; and
Six grandchildren: Tiffany Byrd, Jeff Byrd, Crystal Watson, Shawn Watson, Chris Watson and Eric Watson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Melvin Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-2 preceding the funeral service.
Pallbearers include Matt Turner, Shawn Watson, Chris Watson, Mike McGuiness, Bill Francis and Lynn Tackett.
