Van "Pop" Summerford Sr.

Van “Pop” Summerford, Sr. 60, of Jonesboro, died Sunday at his home. He was born in Monticello, Arkansas and lived there until moving to Jonesboro 25 years ago. He was a mechanic by trade and a member of the Bolivar Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. C. and Ollie Mae Summerford, and a brother, Donnie Junior Summerford.

Survivors are his wife of 8 years, Marsha Summerford, of the home; sons, Van Summerford Jr. of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Bryan Allen Summerford of Oxford, Arkansas; daughters, Lora Tucker and Megan Summerford, both of Hot Springs; Sharon Gwin and husband, James of Hamburg, Arkansas; Destiny Sivils of Monticello; step-son, John Drewry of Fayetteville, Arkansas; brothers, Ernest Summerford of Monticello; Willie Junior “Scooter” Summerford of Missouri and Larry Claud Summerford of Georgia and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Reverend Alvin Swan and Reverend James Tipton officiating with Emerson Funeral Home in charge. Burial will be at Pine Log Cemetery with Gary Ivy, Jay Drope, Chuck Goodson, Kevin Swan, Robert Chandler and Jeremy Johnson serving as pallbearers. The men who were co-dialysis patients at St. Bernard's Outpatient Dialysis are listed as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5-7 Tuesday night at Emerson Funeral Home.
