Tullos Mead, 77, of Jonesboro died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Ethel Mead, two brothers, Garland Mead and Pete Mead.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Billie Mead, two daughters, Donna Ruth Briggs of Marion, Arkansas and Lesa Rowe of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister of Reba Brown of Michigan. His grandchildren are Dave Briggs of Denver, Colorado, Schaefer Rowe and Meri Claire Rowe of Memphis, Tennessee.
After serving three years and four months in the US Army from 1954 to 1958 he returned to college to finish his degrees. Tullos graduated from ASU in 1960 (BSE) and 1962 (MSE). He received his Administrative Certificate from the University of Tennessee at Memphis in 1975.
He began teaching and coaching in Holly Grove, Arkansas (1960-61). The following year he coached football and basketball in Pocahontas, Arkansas from 1961 – 1964. After that time he became a school administrator for the Osceola School System until 1970 when he became Personnel Manager for American Greeting until 1975.
In 1975 he began farming in Caraway, Arkansas until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. He was a Rotarian for 14 years and past president of the Osceola Rotary Club in 1970. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 1-3 PM at Emerson Funeral Home. The funeral service and burial will be private with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
