Tressie Harriet Steiling

April 21, 1922 — December 27, 2014

Tressie Harriet (Booker) Steiling, (92), of Jonesboro, AR (formerly
of West Memphis, AR) died at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro
on December 27, 2014. A graveside service will be at Evergreen
Cemetery, Waynesville, Illinois on January 10, 2015 at 10:00 A.M.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Early (Curtis) of Holiday Island,
AR; two sons, Kevin Gene Steiling of Franklin, TN; Stephen
Blaine (Sandra) Steiling of Jonesboro, AR; two grandchildren,
Jeffrey Blaine Steiling of Jonesboro, AR and Jennifer Steiling,
Little Rock, AR; two great grandchildren, Ashley and Allison
Steiling, Jonesboro, AR. Ms. Steiling was born April 21, 1922 in
Waynesville,IL. She was the daughter of the late John and Minnie
Booker of Waynesville, IL. She married Blaine Matthew Steiling

on Feb. 3, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, her
parents and four brothers and two sisters. She was a past member
of the Waynesville Methodist Church and a graduate of
Waynesville High School.

Born on a farm in central Illinois, Tressie lived her life according
to the values learned on the farm - hard work, thrift, honesty, and
common sense. She raised her three children to observe these
principles in their own lives as well. Tressie contracted
tuberculosis at a young age and endured the somewhat primitive
treatments available during the early 1940s, eventually being cured
and returning to her life as a wife and mother. She devoted her life
to her family. Her hobbies were cooking (famous for her potato
salad and homemade noodles) among other dishes and was an avid
reader. Although an outside observer might consider her life
unremarkable, she had an enormous impact upon the number of
friends and family who were close to her. Consequently, her life is
indisputable proof that living a quiet life is not synonymous with
living an insignificant one.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Tressie's name to the Alzheimer's
Foundation of America is suggested.
