Tommy “Tom” Charles Sanford, 74, of Jonesboro died Thursday, June 5, 2014 in a weather related injury received at his home. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1973. Tom was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Tom retired as Corporal from the Jonesboro Police Department. He also retired from Walmart and had worked at the convocation as security since its opening performance. He is described as a great dad, grandfather, great granddad, and a friend to all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his son, Tom Sanford Jr. of Jonesboro; daughters, Leigh Lutrick (Terry) of Austin, Texas; Tracy Sanford and Kellie Thomas of both of Jonesboro; brothers, Jim Sanford of K. C. Missouri; Joe Sanford of Jackson, Mississippi; sister, Shelby Murphy of Lodi Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Jean Sanford of Tupelo, Mississippi; grandchildren, Misty (Tony) Zaffarno; Corey (Shea) Lutrick; Ashley (Matt) Andrews; Nikki Thomas; Breanna and Caleb Whitmire; seven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Andy Neal officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery near Bono with Jack McCann, Larry Burcham, Jesse Hanks, Rick Elliott, Arlen Whitley, David McDonald, Gary Etter, Nathan Oliver, John Varner and Rusty Grigsby serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are retired and active members of the Jonesboro Police Department and the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office; ASU Ticket Office and the ASU Staff. The Jonesboro Police Department Honor Guard will be providing graveside honors. Visitation will be from 2-5 Sunday at Emerson Funeral Home.
