Tommy Max "Tom" Carey

Tommy “Tom” Max Carey, age 81, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in Jonesboro, Arkansas where he resided with his wife Marti. He died following a terminal illness while showing a strength and captivating spirit that is indicative of his extraordinary life.

Tom was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on September 26, 1928 to Glen T. and Ora Jo Carey. After completing a Bachelor of Science Degree at Oklahoma State University and an M.B.A. Degree in Accounting from Southern Methodist University, he served as First Lt. in the United States Air Force and in 1961 joined Koch Industries in Wichita, Kansas. Tom retired from Koch September 27, 1988 as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors.

Tom was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. He served as Deacon and Elder of East- minister Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife Martha S. Carey of Jonesboro, Arkansas and a sister Rosella Carey McQuain of Duncan, Oklahoma. He is also survived by two daughters from a previous union, Martha Derden Carey of Houston, Texas and Ellen Vanderburg of Naples, Floria and his wife’s children Wendi Williams and Nick and Leslie Williams and three grandchildren, Jake Henry, Isabella and Victoria Williams. He is also survived by numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, and wonderful, loving friends. The compassionate and capable care needed throughout Tom’s illness was provided by Ms. Patti Martin.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Derden Carey.

A service in loving memory of Tom will be held Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 at the Eastminister Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas.
