Tommy L. Brown, 83 of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.
Tom was born in McCrory, Arkansas on June 5, 1936 where he lived until he graduated high school. He moved to Jonesboro in 1954 to attend Arkansas State College where he earned Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist’s degrees in education. Tom worked in education for 30 years, beginning his career in Morehouse, Missouri. He went on to teach in Egypt, Arkansas and the Westside Consolidated School District. He later became the principal at Jonesboro High School. He ended his career in education as the Director of the Jonesboro Area Vo-Tech School.
For many years, Tom attended Forest Home Church of the Nazarene where he played the organ, taught Sunday school, and served as Sunday School Superintendent and as a member of the church board. He was currently a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
Tom’s deep passion was his love for his family and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandsons. He also enjoyed reading books, especially those by John Grisham, spending time outside, listening to music, studying his Bible, playing games, and laughing with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents: B.A. and Agnes Cain Brown; a brother, Boyce Brown, and a sister, Mary Beard.
Survivors include three sons, Sam Brown, Steve Brown, and Dr. Stan Brown;
Two sisters, Syble Lamberson and Jean Mauldin; and
Two grandsons, Brady Brown and Ben Brown.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the Chapel.
