Tom R. Thomas, 78, of Jonesboro passed away on February 11, 2014 at Twin Oaks Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born September 4, 1935 in Lacrosse, Wisconsin to the late Charles A. and Marie Thomas. Tom graduated from high school from Ft. Dodge High School in Iowa, before serving several years with the United States Air Force. He received his Bachelors of Science in education from Ames, Iowa, and he received his Masters from the University of Wisconsin. He taught Mathematics in the Milwaukee School District and at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. He was a Math Instructor for over 30 years at the Beloit Turner High School in Beloit, Wisconsin. He had several passions in life and they were his family, friends, and collecting new vehicles. After moving to Jonesboro he and his family became members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Thomas; one brother, John Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carmela of the home; two daughters, Christine McCord and her husband of Mark of Jonesboro; Theresa Gunderson and her husband David of Janesville, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Paige and Claire McCord, Justin and Anna Gunderson, and Jake and Joseph Thomas.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father James Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery with Military Honors and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all other arrangements.
