Thompson (Tom) Gene Lovelace, surrounded by his loving family, passed from this life, into eternity, at the Flo and Phil Jones’ Hospice House, September 23, 2014 at the age of 86.
Tom proudly served our country in the US Army during WWII while stationed in Kyoto, Japan. Tom was owner and operator of Lovelace Self Storage and Lovelace Oil Company. For 28 Years prior, he was employed by Sun Oil Company and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He retired in 2005. In retirement, Tom pursued his lifelong passion of gardening and antique trading. He was always ready to show off his latest find. He also enjoyed calling the children and playing Santa Clause at Christmas time. He took great joy in his Christmas lights and loved being around people. He had such an infectious smile.
Tom was a devoted and well respected husband, father, and grandfather. He has been a faithful member Central Baptist Church for the past 54 years, where he served for many years as an usher and greeter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Obe Lovelace and Velma Lillian (Thompson) Lovelace Walden, and his step-father M.D. Walden; daughter, Lesha Ann Lovelace; sister LaTina Lovelace McDaniel; brothers, Obie Gene Lovelace, and Robert Walden.
Tom is survived by his life’s companion, wife Clarice, of the home; son, David J. Lovelace of Jonesboro; daughter Carol Lovelace (Wadley) Ethridge and husband Tony, of Sherwood; and his precious granddaughter Erin Elizabeth Wadley, of Sherwood and ASU; brother Kenneth Walden (wife Janice) of Bountiful, Utah; sister Wanda Walden Atwood (husband Raymond) of Jonesboro; numerous nephews and nieces, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at Emerson Funeral Home with Reverends Mike Martin and Raymond Atwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 p.m., until time of service Friday. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Philip Dunn, Scott Lovelace, Al Ryan, Craig Ryan, Danny Ryan, and Walter (Walt) Michael Short. Honorary pallbearers include Larry N. Adams, Eric Brown, Bud Herlein, Bill McKisson, Al Miller, Bill Nolte’s Fellowship Sunday School Class and his morning gcoffee comrades.
