Thomas William “Tommy” Waters, 61, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, in Memphis from injuries sustained when struck by a car while crossing a street in Jonesboro.
Tommy was born February 6, 1950, in Jonesboro to Polly and Glenn Waters. He was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and attended Jonesboro High School with the class of 1968. He previously owned and operated Waters Upholstering. He was a protestant.
Tommy was known for his gifted and skilled craftsmanship as an upholsterer. He was engaging to all with his quick wit and sense of humor. Those close to Tommy who loved him watched his endless struggle with alcoholism.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents: Glenn and Polly Waters, grandparents: Nelia and E.P. Pollock and Florence and George Waters, and a grandchild, Zachary Anderson.
Survivors include 5 children: Kerri Waters, Angie Waters and Wes Waters (Hope), all of Jonesboro, and Cacie Waters and Clayton Waters, both of Houston, Texas; 5 grandchildren: Jonathan Thomas Carter and wife Brenna, Steven Brody Carter and wife Misty, Briana Waters, Thomas Waters, Jr. and Ashleigh Waters, 2 great grandchildren, and one sister, Glenna Hunt, all of Jonesboro.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:00 in Pine Log Cemetery with David Hammett officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for consideration be given to Alcoholics Anonymous of NEA, 2901 W. Washington, Jonesboro, AR 72401, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
