Thomas Calvin Hollingsworth, 82, of Jonesboro, formally of Blytheville, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro.
He was born on July 7, 1926 in Yarbro. He was the son of the late W.A. and Ila Hollingsworth. While living most of his life in Blytheville, he was a farmer and a rural mail carrier. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of First United Methodist Church where he worked with the youth. Later he served as a member and past chairman of the deacons of First Baptist Church. He also served on Blytheville’s city council as an Alderman, was a member of the American Legion of Blytheville, past president of the Lions Club, and he was a Mason.
While living for the past 19 years in Jonesboro, he served as a member and past chairman of the deacons and trustee of Walnut Street Baptist Church and past president of the Lion’s Club.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise Mullins Hollingsworth of Jonesboro, formally of Blytheville; two children, Cathy Harrell and her husband, Dr. Harry, of Jonesboro, and Jill Reynolds and her husband, Bob, of Roland; five grandchildren, Holly Trauth and her husband, Ryan, of Waco, Texas, Harriett Benzing and her husband, Aaron, of Cabot, Paul Harrell and his wife, Megan, of Jonesboro, Calvin and Andrew Reynolds of Roland; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Allison Benzing of Cabot and Cathryn Trauth of Waco, Texas; two brothers, John “Tip” Hollingsworth and his wife, Nema, of Garland, Texas and Jerry “Bo” Hollingsworth of Blytheville, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.A. and Ila Hollingsworth of Blytheville and two brothers.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Walnut Street Baptist Church with the Dr. Glen Putman officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 P.M. at Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers will include Albert Hollingsworth, John Hollingsworth Jr., Jim Cole, Glenn Eubanks, Jim Ellis, Joe Griffin, Jim Gillis, and Randy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will include L.H. Gaines, Randy Hood, and the members of Jim Cole’s Sunday school class.
