Theodore R. Baker

Theodore R. Baker, 90, of Jonesboro, passed on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Community Compassion Center of Jonesboro.

Theodore was born February 26, 1928, in Atchison County, Missouri, to the late Theodore and Inez (Jones) Baker. After graduating from Horace Mann High School in Maryville, Missouri, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy serving during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

After the Navy Theodore returned to Maryville and completed a Bachelor's degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and a Master's degree in Education from the University of Missouri. He continued his education earning a Doctorate of Education at the University of Mississippi.

Theodore taught public school art in several high schools in Missouri until coming to Arkansas State University in 1966. He taught Art Education in the College of Fine Arts until his retirement. Theodore loved to share his passion for art with his students and anyone who shared his artistic appreciation. He enjoyed traveling and was able to visit many foreign countries.

Theodore was an active member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and helped start the International Students mission program. His wife of 62 years, Rose Marie Baker, predeceased him.

Theodore is survived by his son, Steve Baker (Susan), his grandson, Zac Baker (Amanda) and his great granddaughter, Aubrey Baker, all of Jonesboro.

The services will be private and burial will be in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
