Terry Dwayne “Big Boy” Anderson, 53, of Springfield, IL, passed away on February 28, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Terry was born in Jonesboro on June 19, 1972, to Robbie Mae and Nathaniel Anderson Sr. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lawerence and Callie Anderson; maternal grandparents, Willie May McGee and Agnes Fowler; nephews, Darrel Jackson and Ka'veon Graves; aunt, Geraldine Anderson; cousins, Lawrence Anderson III and Patrick Selvy; and long-time friend, Ronnie Pickett.
Terry was born and raised in Jonesboro and graduated from Jonesboro High School. He was a big sports fan, especially of basketball. He played on teams throughout his school years, and a banner with his name still hangs in the gym at MacArthur Junior High. After school, Terry stayed close to home, working several jobs in the surrounding communities. He was highly respected at his jobs due to his strong work ethic and professionalism. When he was younger, he worked for Jonesboro Roofing and at the steel mill in Blytheville, but in recent years, he worked as a manager at a pool company. Terry was proud of his skills and only stepped back from active work to focus on his health. When he wasn’t working, Terry kept his mind at ease by fishing and enjoying nature. When he was indoors, he kept up with basketball and the Tennessee Titans. He was also a huge Superman fan. Terry had a large collection of Superman shirts and shared his love of the hero with his family. Terry loved his family, especially his grandchildren. To them and everyone he loved, he was the real Superman.
Terry is survived by his wife of 13 years, Robin Anderson of Springfield, IL; his parents, Robbie Mae Anderson of Jonesboro and Nathaniel Anderson Sr. of Springfield, IL; his sons, Cody Anderson (Sherrie) and Braden Morgan, both of Jonesboro; his stepsons, Jordan McKenzie, Zach Robinson, and Logan Nichols, all of Jonesboro; his daughters, Anna Anderson, Haley Morgan, and Teyarra Anderson, all of Jonesboro; his step-daughter, Kaitlyn Nichols of Jonesboro; his brothers, Chester Jackson, Bill Jackson, Britt Anderson (Tasha), and Nathaniel Anderson Jr. (April), all of Jonesboro, twin brother Jerry Anderson (Carla), and Michael Anderson (Jessica), both of Springfield, IL; his bonus brothers, Carl Thomas and Cloyce Robinson; his sisters, Agnes Fox, Geraldine Thomas (Carl), and Callie Saucier (Kerry), all of Jonesboro; and his grandchildren, Alisa, Peter, Alexander, Desiree, Conner, and Stella.
A funeral service will be held at Emerson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM, with Nevin Knagey, Wesley Anderson, and Kenneth Thomas officiating. A visitation will take place beforehand from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The burial will be private.
